Nairobi Floods Leave Car Owners Devastated

Image
Residents of Nairobi are counting heavy losses after intense rainfall triggered floods across several parts of the city, leaving vehicles destroyed and owners devastated. Among the most visible impacts of the flooding is the destruction of private vehicles. In many areas, cars were either submerged in floodwater, swept off roads, or left severely damaged after being trapped in rising water levels. Mechanics and auto repair shops in several parts of the city are now reporting an increase in flood-damaged vehicles. However, experts warn that many of these cars may be beyond repair. Floodwater can severely damage engines, electrical systems, and critical components, making repairs extremely costly. The situation has also highlighted the financial vulnerability of many vehicle owners. While some motorists have comprehensive insurance that may cover flood damage, many rely on third-party insurance, which does not compensate for such losses.  On March 6, 2026 (yesterday) Nairobi experienced severe flooding due to intense heavy rains that began in the afternoon and continued into the evening and night. The downpour overwhelmed the city's drainage systems, turning major roads into rivers, stranding commuters, submerging vehicles, and causing widespread traffic chaos and disruptions. Vehicles were swept away or submerged in places like Nairobi West and other low-lying spots. Commuters faced hours-long gridlock, with many stranded or forced to wade through water. Reports of sunken car parks (e.g., Aga Khan Walk in the CBD) and political criticism directed at Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja over poor drainage and infrastructure prep...

11 Games Without a Win: Tottenham's Survival Battle Hits Rock Bottom After Palace Defeat

Image
The 2025/26 season has been nothing short of a nightmare for Tottenham Hotspur fans. What started with hopes of building on previous campaigns has descended into a full-blown crisis, with the club teetering on the edge of relegation from the Premier League for the first time in modern history. Tottenham's latest setback came on March 5, 2026, in a humiliating 1-3 home defeat to Crystal Palace at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs actually took the lead in the 34th minute through Dominic Solanke, who finished off a fine cross from Archie Gray. For a brief moment, it seemed like things might turn around under new manager Igor Tudor (who replaced Thomas Frank earlier in the year amid mounting pressure). But the game imploded spectacularly. Defender Micky van de Ven received a straight red card around the 38th minute for denying a goalscoring opportunity by pulling down Ismaila Sarr in the box. Sarr converted the resulting penalty to level the score at 1-1. Crystal Palace then capitaliz...

Corruption Turns Broad-Based Government Worthless

Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu’s February 2026 report on the Ministry of Defence’s 2024/25 accounts is devastating. The National Treasury had approved Sh35 billion from the Sports and Arts Social Development Fund (SASDF) for the project. The actual contract, signed on 26 May 2024 with a foreign contractor through the Ministry of Defence, ballooned to Sh45.85 billion — an unexplained, unsupported variation of Sh10.85 billion (roughly Sh11 billion). The procurement route? Direct, single-sourcing — in blatant violation of the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act 2015. No evidence the contractor was the only possible supplier. No emergency justification. And crucially, no clearance from the Attorney-General, which is mandatory for contracts above Sh5 billion. Former Attorney-General Justin Muturi didn’t mince words: “Talanta Sports City contracting is one of the greatest heists to ever happen under the Kenya Kwanza regime.” By June 2025, only Sh2 billion (4.5% of the contract sum...
